Testimonials

The following words have been written and generously gifted to me to share by families I have supported in their journeys.

Mikhaila’s Home birth

Having Amanda be part of our pregnancy, birth and postpartum was an enormous blessing which helped us to approach birth with more confidence, and land softly into our role as new parents.

Amanda has so much knowledge about birth due to her decades of experience, and believes passionately in birth, women and the ingenuity of little ones as they make the journey into the world. She holds space for all the emotions that come with pregnancy and birth, and was a gentle witness for our celebrations and also our tears in our journey to become parents.

Amanda’s role in our birth was primarily as support for the birth and birth preparation. She was extremely supportive in our choice to home birth with a midwife and was very knowledgeable about the process for homebirth and hospital birth. She was also extremely emotionally intelligent and provided very person centred care and advice.

I had been labouring for over 12 hours at home with my partner before we requested Amanda’s assistance. When Amanda entered our birth space, I felt an enormous sense of relief and released tension that I didn’t even know I was holding. Amanda provided words of reassurance and encouragement, but also physical support (e.g. stroking, massage, acupressure) to help me to feel more comfortable and calm. She also educated my partner about how to use these techniques, and facilitated him being my primary support during the labour and birth.

In the birth space, Amanda had an extraordinary ability to hold space, but also know when to step in to provide more support. This meant that when myself or my partner needed more support, it was readily available, but also, that my partner was fully empowered to be my support person for the duration of the labour and birth.

As we were homebirthing, Amanda was absolutely amazing in helping with the setup and cleanup of our birth space. This meant that we could focus solely on each other and meeting our little boy after he entered the world, without having to worry about dishes, the birth pool, cleaning and all of the other jobs that needed doing at the end or a long labour!

Amanda cares deeply about women, birth, babies and facilitating an empowering and positive rite of passage through the journey of birth. She is compassionate, thoughtful and sensitive to the needs of women and their families in the leadup to birth, and the days after.

We feel so incredibly grateful to Amanda for being a part of our journey, and recommend her extremely highly to anyone seeking a Doula for their pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Thank you Amanda for all you’ve done for us and ur family <3

Mell’s posterior vbac birth story.

From the first conversation on the phone Amanda made me feel at ease and taken care of. Her calming, yet strong, caring and nurturing nature was exactly what I needed during my birth and without her there is no way I would have been able to have a successful completely natural posterior vbac! She honoured all my wishes and made space for me to achieve this by being the voice and guide I needed, assisting my partner to be there for me but also gave him support, was my advocate at the hospital and went above and beyond to ensure I was safe but also respected and that I was able to have the birth I wanted. After a traumatic first birth where I felt like the system swallowed me up and I was led into induction after induction which ended in an emergency c section I can honestly say having Amanda as my doula made such a difference to my motherhood journey, my mental health and was the most healing and incredible experiences on my life! I highly recommend her and encourage you all to work with her your pregnancy, birth and postpartum! It’s amazing what a difference it makes and i cannot speak highly enough of her wisdom and care! Even in our birth debrief I realised she had done so much more to be that buffer in the birth suite I needed to stay in the zone and not be interrupted, whilst always putting my safety first in the most respectful and nurturing way! It was a long labour and she was available in the middle of the night to come and start supporting me in early labour which she made so beautiful and calm including my first born when she woke up all through to the next night when my Bub arrived! I will be forever greatful to Amanda for guiding me to experience a natural vaginal birth! Something I never thought i could do!

Mells transformitive birth story.

When birth unfolds,

Being a first-time mum I was unsure how I would feel having someone in our birthing space but as soon as labour started it was clear that having (Amanda) a woman with experience being in the birth space made me feel instantly calmer I could drop into the rhythm of labour.

Ewan’s Home birth (birthing partner)

As the birthing partner of first time parents, in the early part of the pregnancy I sometimes felt quite out of my depth with respect to the finer details of the birth process. After meeting with Amanda multiple times before the birth I felt much more equipped to be a supportive partner on the day.

We laboured at home for quite a while before requesting Amanda’s assistance. We were labouring quite well but as we’d already been labouring over 12 hours and things were starting to get more intense, this bought some tension with it. Once Amanda arrived, Mikhaila instantly relaxed. Amanda helped show me quite a few methods to help relieve Mikhaila’s back and hip tension and gave us so much confidence about how our labour was progressing.

I did not know how little time there would be for me to do jobs during the birth. Amanda helped so much with tasks like setting up the birth pool and making sure both Mikhaila and I were hydrated and had enough food. She was also very good at only entering the labour space when we needed help or support which made the birth feel much more intimate.

Once Mikhaila gave birth, I could not believe how many things still needed to happen! Amanda was an amazing support in the first few hours after the birth, when there was so much cleaning and support needed. This meant that I could just focus on Mikhaila and our new baby and was amazing.

Amanda was at our house for over 16 hours and was so supportive the whole time… she was a pillar of strength and support! I could not recommend her as a doula more highly.
